Review : Fearless Audio Crystal Pearl – We are the crystal gems

Specifications

For the nit-pickers and nerdy one here, I’m giving the specs and technical sheets. For all the others out there, you can just go to the next page to see how the Crystal Pearl performs.

Knowles Balanced Armature Drivers

“ A double driver, in 2019 ? Are you insane ? “

In an era of multiple drivers, the Crystal Pearl feels a little shy with only two drivers. Sure, those are Knowles drivers and all, but when you’re used to finding IEMs such as the KZ AS16 which carry 8 drivers per ear and for less than 200$, you might be a bit… perplex.

This time, Fearless didn’t try to hide the driver count, so no more Fearless logo emblazoned. It’s a classic combo now :

  • One CI-22955 for the mids and upper range
  • One ED-29689 for the lower range

If not impressive on paper, there have always been great IEMs with only two drivers. This topology could give great performances or… be a total bluff.

Of course, this kind of setup is not the greatest if you love bass and warm sound as none of those drivers were made for this. Yet, if you’re into a clear/precise sound signature, I’m pretty sure the Crystal Pearl will be the one to go for.

New cable and recessed socket

Recessed socket is not a new thing, you can find them on many CIEM or IEM. It helps to avoid the infamous “pin break” and guarantee an additional comfort and sturdiness over time. I have a few CIEM with a recessed socket such as my 64 audio, but to get it on a classic IEM is a good thing to see.

The cable also got an upgrade. The Y Splitter is made of aluminum, as are the straight plug and the double pin sockets. It could have been a cheap trick, but in fact, that looks pretty cool !

A nerdy guy with a passion for audio and gadgets, he likes to combine his DAC and his swiss knife. Even after more than 10 years of experience, Nanotechnos still collects all gear he gets, even his first MPMAN MP3 player. He likes spreadsheets, technical specs and all this amazing(ly boring) numbers. But most of all, he loves music: electro, classical, dubstep, Debussy : the daily playlist.
